Science and Computer Lab August 30- September 3, 2010

Fifth Grade Science- Magnetism and Electricity

Objective: To discover the magnetic properties of magnets and other materials

The class will perform four investigations this week to promote understanding of the following: establishing a relationship between magnets and other materials; observing magnets interacting together in a "pull" or "push" fashion; permanent magnets, temporary magnets, induced magnetism; force needed to break the magnetic force of two magnets; magnetism travelling through other non-magnetic materials to reach the magnetic material.

Homework: Assigned Monday, August 30, due Wednesday, September 1: Take a magnet home and discover what household appliances and other household items the magnet sticks to. Report findings using a T-chart.

Thurs- Read Story and Study vocab.

Fri- Reading Comprehension Test; Spelling Test; Grammar test
